2022 Palomino World Series Day 3 Recap

Game Fourteen: Dorado, PR 6, Nogales, MX 8


Nogales, MX took an early lead and held on in a win over Dorado, PR.


In the top of the first, Nogales scored two runs on a line drive single to right field. Their third run came from a passed ball to take an early 3-0 lead.


Nogales’s scoring returned in the top of the third. Another single advanced their lead to 4-0, and a ground ball turned into a two-run opportunity by taking advantage of an error to make it a 6-0 score.


Dorado got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. After tagging up, a run was scored from a fly out and created a 6-1 game.


 A line drive single provided Nogales with their seventh run of the game in the top of the fifth.

 

In the bottom of the same inning, a runner scored on a ground out to make the score 7-2.


Dorado’s eighth run was scored on another single in the bottom of the sixth to create a six-run lead.


The bottom of the sixth inning was crucial for Dorado. A run score from a walk started their momentum, with another run coming from a fielder’s choice. A single ended their scoring in the sixth, making it an 8-5 game.


With only the bottom of the seventh left to score, Dorado scored one run on a fielder’s choice, but it was not enough to pull out a win. Nogales wins 8-6.

Game Fifteen: Brownsville, TX 4, Youngstown, OH 9


Youngstown, OH eliminates Brownsville, TX with a score of 9-4.


Youngstown started off strong in the top of the first inning, scoring runs on a single and a walk.


Brownsville responded in the bottom of the first with a home run, bringing in two runs to tie the game 2-2.


In the top of the second, Youngstown tallied two more runs off of singles to take a 4-2 lead.


Scoring a run while another runner was caught stealing, Brownsville made the game 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

Brownsville tied the game at 4-4 with a double by Saul Soto.


With runners on first and second, a home run by Youngstown’s Erik Sundgren made the score 7-4 in the top of the sixth.


In the top of the seventh, Youngstown scored two more runs on a home run by Mark Bunch to secure a 9-4 win.

Game Sixteen: Nogales, MX 0, Laredo, TX 12


Laredo, TX’s defense held Nogales, MX to zero runs to advance to the Championship.


Even with two scoreless innings, Laredo managed to score 12 runs.


Laredo scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Their first run came from a fly ball caught in foul territory, with the runner tagging up to score. The second run was scored on a passed ball.


In the top of the third, Laredo scored two runs on two doubles. A triple by Gerardo Castillo II brought in two more runs to extend their lead to 6-0.


A line drive triple by Marco Villanueva put another run on the board for Laredo. He then scored after tagging up on a fly out to create an 8-0 game.


Laredo’s offense scored two runs on errors and another on a double in the bottom of the sixth to punch their ticket to the Championship game with a 12-0 score.

Game Seventeen: Taoyuan City, Taiwan 12, Youngstown, OH 2


Taoyuan City, Taiwan knocked Youngstown, OH, the former Co-Champions, in a 12-2 game.


In the bottom of the first inning, Taoyuan City started off strong with three runs. Their first run was scored on a fly ball error. A single brought in a second run. After tagging up, Tzu-Chieh Tien scored the third run on a fly out, taking a 3-0 lead.


Youngstown got on the scoreboard in the top of the second on a single to make the score 3-1.


Taoyuan City scored six runs in the third inning. A double brought in the first run of the inning. Three runs were scored on singles. A fly ball set up two more runs, extending their lead to 9-1.


A single in the top of the fourth by Youngstown made the game 9-2.


Taoyuan City hit double digits on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning.


In the bottom of the fifth, Taoyuan City scored two runs on a walk and a single to capture the win with a 12-2 score, sending them to the Championship.
